Well, I have lost count of how many times we have to say this!!
“We are sorry this update is lo long overdue!!”
We can make excuses, but really we shouldn’t.
We have SO much to update you all on, and we will send out another update soon, but since it is too much for one this will be the prologue. lol
We arrived back in Indonesia at the end of July last year. We hit the ground running with our national conference, which was really good. After conference we moved into the dorm and started school and dorm life which was a learning process for sure. We have 3 dorm sons; Midian, Gideon and Danie. You try not getting the names “Midian” and “Gideon” mixed up;)
It has been so busy with all the school stuff, extracurricular stuff for each person and life. This year is FLYING by! 😦 A huge blessing is we live right on the school campus, which has been so nice and convenient. The kids all love it and so do we. (For the most part) There are always sports and activities for everyone to join and we started to get to know the community here better, as over the last almost 12 years our interaction with town people was pretty limited since we lived full time in Dem-land.
We love being here and serving in this way but it has been SO different than what we are used to, but it has been very good for us all. We know this is where God has us for this time. It’s stretching, but good.
We have been meaning to clarify something for a long time now and are just getting around to it. We have had many people ask us about this, so we thought we would address it in an update. Being dorm parents is NOT a paid position. It is a ministry. We pay to live here.We pay rent for our house, we pay for the kids to go to school & its actually costing us more to live in town than when we lived in the tribe. This is not to complain at all, but we have had several people ask & even assume that we were now paid employees of the school. No income in it for us!:)
Thanks to all our faithful supporters, we can afford to live here for the kids to go to school and serve in this way for the time being. It has been a big adjustment, like I mentioned before, but it has been priceless for Eden and the younger two to be able to go to school and have a break from homeschooling and get some more socialization, opportunities and a change of pace.
There are days when they all miss home (Dem) so much, but overall, they are very grateful for this opportunity. It is exactly what we all needed at this time.
Jeremiah, Eden and our 3 dorm boys are all on a 2 week mission trip right now that the high school does. It is an Outdoor Education program where they go to a different location (usually in a remote village area, but this time in a city) and serve. They help with any work projects, they educate the people on HIV and TB and have a guest speaker. This time, they are doing soccer and English camps. And Jeremiah is the speaker for it. You can be praying for them as they still have 1 week left. Pray for hearts as they are missing their beloved classmate Janae & also Janae’s dad Steve who usually goes on these trips and the kids love him. The kids are gaining some insight into different cultures and serving there. Pray that they would stay healthy and make it back home safely. Pray for endurance and energy and sleep etc. They are “roughing it” for 2 weeks. I am sure they are having a great time, but will be glad to be home too. And lastly, pray for J as he speaks, that he would be used by God as an instrument to say what He wants him to say to speak to these kids.
You will hear from us again soon! Thanks for all your support. You are a blessing to us and to all we minister to here.
